From first conversation to final installation, every stage is handled in one studio. Each commission is drawn for a single space and made only once.
Tile Design
Custom tile patterns drawn for your exact dimensions. I write the algorithms that generate them, working from your parameters (proportion, rhythm, colour, the way light falls in the room), then refine the output by hand until it belongs to your space. Each design is delivered as a technical drawing with a mock-up visualisation before anything is fired.
Tile Production
Fabrication in my own studio, so every stage stays under one pair of hands: hand-glazing, kiln firing, and inspection. Roughly one square metre is produced per day, which is what sets the lead time on any commission.
Surface Installation
I fit the work myself, so the person who made the tiles is the person who lays them. Substrate preparation, setting out, grouting and sealing are all handled in one visit sequence. Wall surfaces and splashbacks only, as the tiles are made too thin to take floor loading.
What it costs, and how long it takes
PRICE
Around £720 / m² fully installed
The tiles themselves, glazed and fired and ready to lay, run around £450 per square metre; the remainder covers the design work and the fitting itself. A full installation typically comes to £650–£800 per square metre depending on design complexity, glazing, and quantity. Quoted in full and in writing before any work begins, with no charge for the estimate.
TIME
6 to 8 weeks
For an average bathroom wall area of 17–18 m², from first drawing to finished wall. Production runs at about one square metre per day, and I take on a small number of commissions each year.
SCOPE
Walls, not floors
Splashbacks, feature walls, alcoves, and full bathroom or kitchen wall areas. The tiles are made too thin for floor loading, so floors are sourced elsewhere and I design around them.
Wastage is accounted for in the quantity produced, so there is no need to order extra.
Start with a sample
Commissioning a surface unseen is a lot to ask. Sample tiles let you hold the glaze, see how it takes the light in your own room, and test a colour against what is already there before committing to a full commission. Ask about samples when you get in touch.
