Yes. Each tile is individually made by hand using traditional techniques, which gives the subtle variations in texture, glaze, and colour that handmade ceramics are known for.

Yes. Custom patterns, colour palettes, surface textures, dimensions, and decorative elements are all developed for the individual project. That is the normal way I work, not a special case.

Where appropriate, yes. I can often develop a bespoke glaze or colour inspired by an existing material, while keeping the finished work true to my own hand and aesthetic.

I can create exclusive designs for clients who need something entirely unique. If exclusivity is important to your project, raise it early and we can agree it during the design process.

Every project begins with a conversation about your space, your vision, and the practical requirements. From there I develop concepts, refine the details, produce samples where they are needed, and carry the project through to production and installation.

Yes. Most people arrive with inspiration rather than a finished design. We work through it together until the idea suits both the architecture and how you want the room to feel.

Yes, and it is work I particularly enjoy. I am comfortable working to drawings, setting-out plans, and specification schedules, and can supply technical drawings and samples for client presentations. The studio is new, so early collaborations get a level of attention and flexibility that a busier supplier could not offer.

Yes. For larger or more complex projects I produce prototypes to review before full production begins.

As much or as little as you wish. Some people want to be part of every design decision; others would rather I lead the creative process and bring them the results.

Yes. Bespoke commissions often draw on architecture, landscape, travel, family heritage, artwork, or other personal references. That is usually where the strongest designs come from.

Yes: full-scale bathroom, kitchen, and commercial wall design and installation. Given enough notice, and depending on complexity, an average bathroom wall area of 17 to 18 square metres takes roughly six weeks to two months from start to finish to get everything absolutely right. Walls only: the tiles are too thin for floors.

Within the studio's capacity, yes. Production runs at about one square metre per day, so larger quantities mean longer programmes rather than shortcuts. I would rather quote an honest date than compress the making.

I work to a fixed production rate of about one square metre per day, so I can tell you early and precisely whether a programme is achievable, and I will say so if it is not. Dates are agreed in writing before work starts, and I report progress against them as the commission runs. For larger programmes I take on a limited number of commissions at once so that a confirmed date stays a confirmed date.

Where possible I retain the production information so additional tiles can be made later, although slight variations should be expected with handmade ceramics over time.

Small variations in colour, texture, and surface are part of what makes handmade ceramics beautiful. These natural differences give each installation warmth, depth, and individuality.

The tiles are made to be enjoyed for many years. I select the materials and production method according to where the tiles will be installed.

My glazes are developed for long-term performance. Like all natural materials they age gracefully, gaining character rather than losing it.

I source raw materials (clay bodies and glaze components) from local suppliers including Trylla and Bath Potters’ Supplies. Everything after that is mine: the design, the glazing, the firing, and the installation.

I believe in thoughtful craftsmanship, responsible material selection, and making pieces designed to last for generations rather than following short-lived trends.

No. My tiles are made for walls and are too thin to take floor loading, so I do not supply them for flooring. If your project needs a floor as well as walls, I will design the walls around a floor finish sourced elsewhere.

No. Wastage is accounted for in the quantity I produce, so there is no need to order a surplus.

Every commission is unique, so pricing reflects the complexity of the design, the materials, dimensions, glazing, and quantity. As a guide, the tiles themselves cost around £450 per square metre; a full installation, covering design, production, and fitting together, averages around £720 per square metre, typically falling between £650 and £800. I provide a detailed written quotation once we have discussed your project, and there is no charge for it.

An average bathroom wall area of 17 to 18 square metres takes roughly six weeks to two months from first drawing to finished wall. I confirm a clear production schedule before work begins.
